ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to introduce the life history of Hong-soo Lee, whose work is central to both the history of Korean music education and the Korean Music Education Society, thereby highlighting his significant pedagogical contributions and bringing international recognition to Korea's legacy in music education. In addition, his achievements are expected to serve as a luminous contribution for both theoretical scholarship and practical methodologies in global music education. Here, in accordance with the qualitative research method, this study presents a chronological account of Hong-soo Lee's life, documented by the researcher, his longtime student. The inquiry is grounded in nearly thirty years of personal dialogues from graduate school until his death, complemented by primary biographical records entrusted to the researcher. His life history is divided into the period of childhood and adolescence, the period of education college, the early and later period of teaching, the period of studying abroad, the period of teaching at university, and the period after retirement. The stories of his life during these periods provide valuable historical records for the history of music education in Korea and the development of the Korean Music Education Society, and will have a positive influence on exploring the characters who influenced music education in the future and his educational ideas.
