ABSTRACT

This study developed a visualization-based web tool for Korean traditional music jangdan appreciation education and quantitatively examined its educational effectiveness. Timestamp-based CSV data were constructed by marking jangdan transition points and first-beat positions in a sanjo audio excerpt using Sonic Visualiser, then processed via Python and CREPE to visualize jangdan sections, transition points, first beats, and melodic contours. The completed tool was implemented in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and deployed via GitHub Pages. Educational effectiveness was verified through a post-test-only comparison design with pre-service elementary school teachers. The experimental group significantly outperformed the control group in jangdan transition recognition rates and demonstrated smaller mean error values in first-beat identification. These findings demonstrate the educational potential of visualization-based Korean traditional music appreciation education by supporting learners' musical structure perception.
