ABSTRACT

This study presents an objective, systematic vocal pedagogy based on anatomical, physiological, and biomechanical principles to help adolescent middle school students sing healthily. To this end, a literature analysis was conducted on 24 publications regarding vocal organs, mechanisms, and pedagogy, categorizing singing into respiration, posture, and resonance. Results suggest the SPLAT (belly-in) breathing technique for respiration, flexible spinal alignment and suboccipital nerve relaxation for posture, and semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVT) training utilizing maxillary sinus backpressure for resonance. Integrating these components, a practical instructional method using the Korean art song <Namchon> was derived, structured sequentially from pre-singing preparation to song training (lyrics recitation, SOVT melody singing, and integration). This study is significant as it moves beyond conventional pedagogy centered on abstract metaphors or imitation, enabling students and teachers to scientifically understand vocal mechanisms, protect their voices, and healthily engage in the music curriculum.
